My Background

Hi, I'm Elliot and I'm more than just a Video Editor.

When I'm not locked into the mindset of all-things video, you’ll usually find me engaging with pretty much any sport, eyeing up my next travel destination, or spending time in the presence of people (or pets).

Whilst I havn't quite hit the point in my life where golf is the answer to everything, a lot of my spare time is taken up by football. Occasionally it'll be playing, but mainly its spending my Saturdays following Queens Park Rangers up and down the country as they most likely lose, again, in a result that hear's me utter the words 'I'm never going again'. Of course, that'll never be true and if it were I wouldn't have travelled across Europe to Vienna just to watch them in single pre season game. Anyway, I follow the national team to get that experience of winning feelings. Having been at Wembley to watch the England Women lift the Euro's trophy in 2022, I set my sights on a trip to Europe a few years later. In the summer of 24', I solo-travelled back and fourth to Germany to watch a rather unconvincing route to a final in Berlin that gave me an all-too familiar feeling. It was a memorable trip nonetheless, meeting numerous fans from all over Europe and celebrating some unforgettable goals like Ollie Watkins last minute winner in Dortmand. Who would've thought that an ex-Brentford player would give me one of my favourite sporting experiences to-date?

I don't just travel because of football though. I’ve skied in Banff, explored Vancouver in the summer, been on safari in Kenya, and visited both the Caribbean and many places in Europe. Each trip gives me new experiences and stories to tell - probably too many to write down here - but I simply love bringing that sense of adventure back into my day-to-day.

Away from sport and travel, I’m a huge fan of film and theatre. Having studied both at school I guess it was always pretty obvious I would be doing something creative in my career. My favourite film is probably Taxi Driver, but I have to give an honourable mention to The Truman Show given that we are all pretty much living our own version of it nearly 20 years later. I've always loved watching and analysing films, and whilst in education even made some short films too. Notably, at university, I took part in a short 12 week programme by London Film School which saw me get some valuable experience directing, lighting, sound design, shooting and editing. University was where I got the chance to write and direct a theatre show too. It was a solo-performance piece, ‘Searching for Quarks’ - a show about ones journey to self-identification through exploring different personas. I wrote and directed this play as part of my dissertation and was recognised for an 'Outstanding Research' award by the University of Warwick. Other than that, my passion for on-stage performance is deeply focused on stand-up comedy where one of my favourite experiences was travelling to Edinburgh Fringe Festival to watch countless acts perform their content. In fact, I’ve even given stand-up comedy a try myself which is why I have such huge admiration for those who do it.

Most of all, I enjoy being around people. I’m not someone who wants to be locked away with headphones on all the time. What matters most to me are the connections I make along the way. Whether it's the people, places, or my cocker spaniel, Austin, I'm always reminded to step away from the screen and enjoy the smaller moments in life. For me, life is about shared moments, new adventures, a good balance of work and play, and, of course, a wagging tail!

2016-2019

University of Warwick

1st Class Degree in Theatre and Performance Studies with Media Communications.

During my three years at university, I developed a strong foundation in storytelling, audience engagement and creative communication across both live and digital formats. The course blended practical performance work with critical media theory, allowing me to explore how stories are constructed, performed and received across different platforms.

Throughout my degree, I gained hands-on experience in writing, directing and producing creative work, including devising and directing a solo theatre performance as part of my dissertation. This project challenged me to explore identity, narrative and audience connection, sharpening my ability to craft meaningful stories with clarity and intention.

Alongside performance work, I developed a deep understanding of media communications, analysing how content functions within wider cultural, social and digital contexts.

University was also where I expanded my practical production skills, taking part in a short intensive programme with the London Film School that introduced me to directing, lighting, sound design, shooting and editing. This combination of performance, theory and hands-on production continues to shape my approach today, grounding my work in strong narrative thinking, emotional resonance and an audience-first mindset.

2018 - 2019

Creative experience

In my second year at University, with graduation on the horizon, my focus started to shift towards what the beginning of my creative career would look like. In my second year at Warwick, I landed my first taste of the professional video production world at Pulse Films, a short placement that saw me working as a Production Assistant on a variety of projects. This was the first insight to the fast-pace environment that would set the tone for the rest of my career. Most notably, I worked on the production of Paloma Faith's 'Loyal' music video as Production Assistant.

In that same summer came my first taste at agency life at Contented. It was a second placement that lasted a little longer than my one, so making a good impression here was top of my priority list. I basically experienced every avenue of what agency life has to offer here. From creative brainstorm to production, to final delivery, I did anything and everything. I can still hear myself saying to my friends back at University "it's experience that education simply can't teach because it's throwing you into the real world" - cliche I know! I took everything I knew from this experience and channeled it into my final year at Warwick, ensuring that everything I did would have value when I stepped into 'that real world'.

2019-2022

Contented Group

For my second spell at Contented, it began as another placement. I still didn't really know what path my creative career would go down but I once again joined as someone willing to do a bit of everything to help out. Fast forward a few months and video editing found me within a full-time role. I found my love for editing sports content in this role. I led edits for the England Cricket Board, producing social, branded, and internal content that occasionally made it to broadcast with SkySports and the BBC. Beyond sports content, I also worked across campaigns for some other notable brands, including Bupa, Hyundai, Motors, and Gumtree. My creativity saw me developing everything from social-first assets to larger-scale branded projects. It was a role that went beyond editing, contributing to creative concepts, managing social content day-to-day, and supporting on set as a Production Assistant and DIT. Whilst it was here that I found my passion for Video Editing, it was Contented that gave me a hands-on understanding of every stage of production.

2022-2023

The River Group

In 2022 I joined The River Group as a Creative Video Editor, where I became the lead creative voice on SuperdrugTV’s social content. Here I had the chance to direct shoots, develop campaign concepts, record sound, and oversee the edit process end-to-end. This work earned recognition, winning a Global Video Campaign of the Year Award, and I also delivered content for clients including Co-op and Lloyds Pharmacy. My time at River strengthened my ability to blend creativity with strategy, ensuring every video was not only engaging but also aligned with brand objectives.

2023-Present

Cedar Communications

Most recently, I’ve been working at Cedar as Creative Video Editor/ Producer, overseeing content creation for clients such as Tesco. My role includes pitching, shooting, and editing social campaigns, as well as providing art direction across video and photography. I also mentor editors, review creative output, and host regular tutorials to up-skill Cedar’s post-production team, whether that be in the UK or Hong Kong. This position has allowed me to combine hands-on creative work with leadership and mentoring, helping to shape workflows and raise the overall standard of output across the business.
